Verification before dispatch

Hermes checks the selected carrier’s identity, operating authority and available insurance information before assignment. Ask for the carrier details if you need them for a lender, dealership or other interested party.

Broker registration and the broker’s surety bond are separate from the motor carrier’s vehicle and cargo insurance.

The condition report is evidence

Photograph the vehicle before pickup and retain the pickup bill of lading. At delivery, inspect in adequate light before signing. Mark suspected new damage on the delivery bill of lading and take photographs immediately.

If you find possible transport damage

Notify Hermes and the carrier promptly. Preserve photographs, both bills of lading, repair estimates and communications. Do not make statements about cause or accept a final resolution until the relevant documents have been reviewed.

Hermes can help organize the carrier contact and claim information, but the carrier and its insurer decide coverage and liability.

Common questions

Does the broker bond pay vehicle-damage claims?

The broker’s financial-security filing is not a substitute for the motor carrier’s cargo or liability coverage. Damage claims normally involve the transporting carrier and its insurer.
